The User Interface

Summary: This page explains the Files and Folders component layout, including the toolbar, folder hierarchy, and file list. It shows where to find common actions and how to navigate folders and files efficiently.

The User Interface of the Files and Folders component has three main areas:

  • Toolbar – actions for uploading, downloading, sharing, and managing items
  • Folders panel – the folder tree for the current Salesforce record
  • Files and Folders panel – the contents of the selected folder (showing files and subfolders)

The Files and Folders component is designed to feel familiar if you have used common file explorers such as the Windows File Explorer or macOS Finder. The layout and interactions follow the same general patterns: folders on the left, contents on the right, and actions available in context, so most users can start working without extensive training.

Cartularius also adheres to the Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS), ensuring the component matches the look and feel of Lightning Experience. This consistency makes the interface more intuitive and helps reduce the learning curve for Salesforce users.

Once you know what each area does, you can move faster through common tasks like uploading files, creating folders, previewing documents, and managing file versions.

Row selection

You can select one or multiple items to perform actions such as download, delete, export, or merge.

Row actions

Each file or folder may have a row-level action menu with additional actions. These actions are context-specific and can vary based on your permissions and the item type.

Why are some actions unavailable?

Not all actions are available in every situation. Availability can depend on:

  • Your assigned permission sets
  • Folder or file restrictions
  • File categories (for example: allowed categories per folder)
  • Your organization’s Cartularius configuration

If an action is disabled or missing where you expect it to appear, contact your Salesforce administrator.
